Dr. Venugopal is Professor of Medicine and the Elodia Kehm Chair of Hematology in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Rush University and Director of the Section of Hematology at Rush University Medical Center. He obtained his medical degree from Trivandrum Medical College, University of Kerala, in India and then trained in Hematology/Oncology at the Tata Memorial Cancer Center in Bombay. Dr. Venugopal did Masters in Clinical Hematology at the University of London, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital. Subsequently, he completed residency and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Rush University. He is actively involved in clinical and laboratory research in hematologic malignancies, specifically, clinical trials for the treatment of acute and chronic leukemias and lymphomas, factors that predict response to therapy and prognosis, and monoclonal antibodies and experimental drug treatments for hematologic malignancies. He has designed and conducted studies involving translational research combining monoclonal antibodies with cytotoxic and biologic agents in lymphoma, leukemia, and other hematological malignancies. He has published or presented 327 abstracts, 9 book chapters and 125 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. The major focus of his research involves the development of novel methods of enhancing tumor response to biologic agents.
